Week 10 of lockdown – the week that seemed as though everyone thought they were having a regular summer holiday when actually, we are still living through a pandemic which just isn’t getting any better.

The weather being hot and dry seems to make people forget what is actually happening in our country right now. But for me, I have had a lovely week mostly doing my uni assignments sat outside in my garden which I am extremely grateful for. I do kind of look as though I’ve been abroad with the tan I’ve managed to get which I am also loving, and I think we have had more BBQs this year than any other year and that was only in May! We had another BBQ this week where we created a new BBQ pudding. We coated fresh pineapple chunks in a tsp. cinnamon and a tbsp. brown sugar, grilled it on the BBQ until it was cooked, then served with ice cream and it tasted great! Definitely the new addition to every single BBQ from now on.

I had a really busy week this week with my uni work. One of the modules I’ve taken this semester is the Global Communications Project module, where over the past few months I’ve been in a team with PR students across the world to develop a campaign idea for a brief we had been given. This week was the semi-final, and for our team, the final of Glob Com! We made it to the top three campaigns in the competition! We had to present our campaign virtually on Zoom in both the semi-final and the final. I wish we had the opportunity to pitch our campaign in person, as we were all supposed to have met for the first time and presented together in Lithuania this week, but hopefully one day, Glob Com organise for us to do this. We were a bit gutted we didn’t win, but we feel like the real winners because we made such great friendships through the process and I know I’d be able to get in touch with my team members if I was ever travelling to their country, which would be amazing.

I also had my the last deliveries of items for my bedroom this week. It isn’t fully complete, but it is as complete as it is going to get in lockdown, as a lot of things I still would like to get will be better to get when I can actually go shopping rather than ordering online. My room seems a lot more spacious and a lot lighter than it has before, and I am loving having a floor lamp because it makes my room a lot cosier on an evening. I can’t wait to get the finishing touches soon.

This week I had a lovely FaceTime catch-up with Leah, one of my oldest friends who I haven’t seen since way before lockdown. One thing I am grateful for this lockdown is the time I have had to be able to catch up with friends, even though it is on Zoom or FaceTime and not in person. Lockdown has made me realise how life can be TOO busy sometimes with work, uni, and other things that can take over what you would really like to be doing, so I am loving being able to properly connect with my friends and have plenty of time.

I made my very first car journey out of my village this week. I have stayed within my village for 10 weeks, where I have only been inside my house, or for a walk around my village with my family. I needed to make an exciting trip to the doctors this week, and so I ventured out in the car with my Mum, and then down to pick up a drive thru KFC. I thought it would feel different being in a car again but it’s weird how much you can remember from such a long time ago because, to be honest, it felt no different.

I did however, make a trip down to the next village, Lepton, where I met my best mate Keira, socially distanced of course. I made the very wrong decision of wearing some new trainers so by the time I got to where she was, my heels felt like they had fallen apart (note to self: never wear new trainers on a fairly long walk). I am pretty sure 10 weeks is the longest we have spent apart from each other, and it felt so nice to spend time in someone else’s company for a change. We were grateful for the sunshine because we sat on a field in-between our villages and caught up for a few hours. It felt extremely unnatural to be so far away when we were walking but not as bad when we sat down to chat. I am just grateful that we were able to do that and it gave me something to look forward to for a change!

I hope everyone is abiding by the social distancing rules as much as they possibly can in order to keep everyone safe.

Keep smiling and have a great day! Liv xxx
