So, in the week where we spent our 49th day in lockdown, we had a few events to celebrate. From VE day, to my brother’s 18th birthday, to just celebrating how beautiful the weather had been, I had a really nice week this week.
I started off the week in my newly painted room enjoying a good old online shop for lots of new things for my room. Slowly, through the week, some things have been delivered so I am seeing a little change in my room most days, which is quite refreshing seeing as though I am spending the majority of my day in there at the moment.
I personally really enjoyed celebrating VE day on Friday, within safe distances from any neighbours who were celebrating too. The weather was absolutely beautiful; I think the hottest it has been so far in lockdown! Through the day I sunbathed in my back garden, and then watched the TV programme which included the Winston Churchill broadcast from the original VE day. It was actually really inspiring and did make me think how easy we have got it in lockdown right now compared to the 6 years of war that generation experienced (although most people seem to now be stretching the rules, especially on VE day and I am anticipating a rise in cases in a couple of weeks). We had a traditional English scone with jam and enjoyed a few glasses of Prosecco at the front of our house, socially distanced with the other neighbours in our cul-de-sac. It was a really lovely afternoon of catching up with others whilst obeying the social distancing rules, and being in the company of others for a change. It was lovely to hear people in my neighbourhood and estate playing music out loud and having a lovely time in the sun, safely.
On Saturday, we had a lovely 18th birthday celebration for my brother Cameron. Even though it was in lockdown, we made it a really special and enjoyable day, especially because if we were in normality, Cameron would have had his first A Level exam two days later and would have been busy revising and thinking about his exams anyway. By the time Cameron got out of bed, it was already lunchtime. A typical 18-year-old already. We spent quite a while opening presents on facetime to family and then had pancakes for lunch as requested by the birthday boy, and I definitely was not complaining. The sun was shining so we played one of Cam’s new card games outside, went for an afternoon walk and ordered a Chinese, another of Cam’s requests. In the evening we facetimed some friends and family who would normally celebrate birthdays with us, and after that we had an alcoholic bev, with Cam having his first legal drink. Not to forget we also tucked into the birthday cake I made (cake blog post coming soon)!
I have really been enjoying my Sunday morning exercise whilst in quarantine, as I am joining in with a virtual online dance fitness class run by Amy, my old dance teacher from theatre school. I am absolutely loving doing the session every Sunday as they leave me feeling absolutely knackered but also great because I know how hard I have worked within that hour and I am prepared for the rest of my weekend. My love for exercise and how good I feel for doing it is really coming out through this lockdown and I am really excited for when I can get back to the gym and keep working hard.
As we all know, there was the big (or should I say not as big as anticipated) announcement from the Prime Minister with the plan to get our country slowly out of lockdown and back to normal. I don’t think I have been as anxious so far in lockdown as what I was on Sunday, waiting to hear what he had to say. The plain and simple answer was no; I still can’t see Jacob yet because lockdown is still in place. It definitely is the right thing to keep us in lockdown in order to keep everyone safe but I do wonder if we will see a rise in the cases in the next couple of weeks due to people going back to work. I really don’t want to be stuck in lockdown for any longer than we have to.
I hope everyone is doing well and keeping positive.
Keep smiling and have a great day! Liv xxx
